      • The goal of reading outside of class is valuable for many reasons. Simply, you should read. Secondly, the books listed are classics that enrich your studies and understanding of British literature. Also, by accomplishing the reading of these pieces, you are more inclined to see how they are referred to in an allusory way throughout modern media. Also, it is your job as a student to find the value in your own education and because of that, these are individual projects, done on your own time, outside of class with plenty of time to manage your work before a non negotiable due date. These projects teach responsibility, individuality, discovery and most importan: accountability.
      • This year, you will have the opportunity to choose three out of seven possible texts (first come first served on selection days). During the first three marking periods, you will be expected to complete a project portfolio (equal in value to a paper grade) as a final evaluation of the text chosen. For each marking period, the student will have roughly a month outside of class to read each book and complete five of the possible assigned activities for each text
      • The beauty of the assignment list is that they can serve multiple texts. After reading your book for the marking period, you may choose any five projects that interest you and use the book and any other CITED resource to complet them. All of these works are short in length (far under 200 pages) and are intended to be significant quick reads but also important to read before you go to college! The areas discussed in the text are departures from love and death but also factor in science, geography, and imagination among other components. The projects are not difficult but require effort from you, the student, to complete well. These are a significant part of your grade and will be the same value as a formal paper would be. Use your time wisely and good luck! If you have any questions through your reading, ask me in school or contact me via email at uherk@panthervalley.org. Good luck!
